Teaching Chemistry at College Can Be Much Easier Than You Think
Teaching Chemistry at College Can Be Much Easier Than You ThinkAfter teaching Chemistry for over thirty years, I found that the quickest way to grow my students was by teaching Chemistry at my local college. Many of the issues I had as a teacher today are the same as those that occur with students in the past.Colleges do not always provide the right tools for my students to learn chemistry. For example, some classes were only for chemistry majors so they were taught in a very controlled environment where I could only 'teach' them in much the same way as I would any other class. The students that came to class without a chemistry background usually didn't have any expectations and then quickly got bored. This is why I advise all teachers to find a way to allow students to participate in their own learning experience by allowing them to study what they want. This is not just the case for the chemistry classroom but can be used in many other areas. The best way to do this is to make sure the students come to class with the tools needed to study the subject. Most colleges do not give you enough resources to make it simple for your students to get started with the material. My best advice for this is to buy the materials online so that you can have the resources necessary for your students to learn. The information is available as an online resource guide so you can create your own kits that can easily be given to your students. You can design kits that are suitable for their level of learning and the material that they need to start learning. When they get started they learn at their own pace and learn the concepts much quicker. You can also find supplemental information for your chemistry curriculum that can easily be integrated into your course to help them understand the subject. In addition to getting your students studying from home, you also have the opportunity to teach them in a relaxing setting by using what I call, 'homework coaching'.This will help the stude nts focus on what they need to be learning rather than trying to understand everything that you are saying. While many teachers use the same prompt delivery system and get the same results, they also fail to develop the skills necessary to make their students successful in their studies. You have to find a way to empower your students to be their own teachers and to become better chemists by allowing them to develop their own learning processes.
